sometimes no just doesn't make sense to me

but, I've been know to do a lot of things that don't make sense to me, much less to anyone else
This soda shop table and chairs just spoke to me the moment I saw it.  $35.00.  Yes please.
I could so easily invision my three little grandgirls playing around it.  I might clean it up a bit, and maybe recover the seat bottoms, and maybe try to push it off on my DIL, but for now, it is on my back porch looking so sweet and cute .... and waiting for someone to come over and play

Thrifty Treasures

April 12, 2012

a few Saturday mornings ago

first up .... this lovely french chest that I found at an estate sale
A great candidate for a make-over  - she is clean as a pin and in great shape
I just knew my bestie would probably love to add this piece to her french collection

I picked this up at my favorite antique store in Slayden, Mississippi
I can't decide if I should paint it or refinish it.  I think I like the dark wood

this would be easy to sand down and put a couple of coats of stain on it

for $1.00 - I couldn't resist

and a buck for these flip-flops ...  they have already served me well

more on that left foot soon... brace yourself ... the pics are ugly scary

good luck "sailing"  this Saturday!
I am posting this to Rhoda's Thrifty Treasures party - check it out and see what others are finding

2 estate sales, 1 goodwill and a car wash

I am jonesin' for warm weather and a Saturday morning garage sale.  How about you?
We killed some time at 2 estate sales in Millington and bought a few hardback books, and the tupperware containers.  While suffering through the WW, I could can use these containers to pack in my lunch bag -  and it is a big bag - for this that and the other - mostly salad dressing.

talked the Mr into running in Millington GW, and I found this Liz Claiborne skirt for $3.99

I like how these stack up, and you know orange is the color to decorate with this year, and you know I want my lunch to look designer good  - considering what I am trying to eat... or not eat

the pay back was to help wash his monster truck - inside and out

you should see the Maxipad ....  she needs a cleaning WAY more than his truck!

and have I told you I am chalk painting a chandelier ? This color is CoCo
almost ready to put it on the dandyshandy and see what happens

and a sneak peak of another little ASCP project
this is old white

oh, and we ate lunch at Wendy's....
Junior Deluxe Burger for me - 8 WW points
$10.00 and home by 1pm - good times!

It this Bakelite?

It feels like Lazarus has risen!

After two long months ....   Jeff is finally home!

He had doctor appointment this morning and on the way home we made a couple of stops .....
first stop  - Bibles for China Thrift store.  I picked up two DandyShandys and a book on little kids horses ....The nice lady said that would buy 4 Bibles.  I guess they are sending Bibles to China?
Next stop was across the parking to Tops BBQ.  We split a jumbo BBQ and a Dr. Pepper and motored over to an Estate sale in our old neighborhood.  I found a nice butcher knife for $3, that Jeff sharpened so that I should not consider using for a long time, and a large wicker clothes basket, and this silverware or flatware, or whatever you call it in your neck of the woods....

You tell me, is this Bakelite?  It doesn't say it,  and didn't exactly pass the "is it Bakelite test" I found
online, so it is probably only some very cute mid-century Cheap-o-lite ... but I like it
I picked up these pieces and the utensil caddy for 10 bones.

you could have a tablescape for six

I think it would be fun to use at a picnic or out door party ...
certainly better that plastic disposable stuff ....
but ya'll know I don't mind doing the dishes when the party is over ....

"Rowoco Company" is on the back, but nothing about Bakelite
I really like Bakelite and hope to stumble upon on some one day

Well, girls what do you think?  Anyone interested in this Cheap-o-lite?

Amanda, Mar, Michelle, Kris.... do ya'll want to play house with this cute stuff?

Thrifty Treasures

check it out..... Southern Hospitality was one of the first blogs I started looking at on a regular basis, especially on Mondays, because I was so intrigued by all the things that women were finding at garage sales.  I learned that we should look at these old, sometimes worn-out looking items as what they can become - not what they are in their current condition....

kinda like the way we look at ourselves .... sometimes our current condition may not be exactly what we wish for, or even what our Heavenly Father knows we can become....  but usually after a little "tweeking" we can change and become something more, better, and even something useful again

I hooked up with my padna in yard sale crime, Sally, at 7am on Saturday, with a news paper and a map book ...  this mid-century piece of furniture is the first thing we saw on the sidewalk just around the corner from Sally's house.  Marlena likes mid-century furniture, and this dresser was only $20.00.

At this point - - it all about the hunt  - all logic and reason is thrown to the wind ...

it was showing signs of being 60 years old... laminate chipping off the bottom on both sides, the finished was wearing off in places on the top, the bottom middle drawer needed a little tweeking....  but the owner (holding the mirror) kept reminding me - - it's $20.00  I finally decided that if Marlena didn't want it, I could sell it on Craigslist for $80 and I just so happened to be in the pick up truck....

SOLD!

and no Micaela ...  I didn't ask him to take it off of his moving truck!

this is after a little pledge, and taking a photo that compliments her short comings

still a pretty, less than perfect piece of mid-century furniture

however,  I suppose it is not realistic to think that at this time me and Jeff can trailer my super sale items to my kids on the east or the west coast  .....  DAD BLURN IT!  Having a job really stinks sometime!  Plus, I think Marlena is looking for a matching set  -chest and dresser -  so I emailed a picture of it to my sister-in-law, who is only 20 minutes away, asking if she wanted it?
Her response..... OMG!  I want it!!  Please don't paint it!  She picked it up today....
seeing her take this home was almost as much fun as the hunt ....  get it?

... I also bought this thing ......  I guess I will name her "the beast"....  I have big plans for me and her
this beast is not nearly as exciting as the mid-century... but I am hoping we will become close friends

  a little DandyShandy for $4.00

cool shirt that Jeff will like wearing for $2.00

And this Pottery Barn pillow and feather down pillow insert - its like new - 3 bucks.
the Pottery Barn Outlet gets $12.99 for the insert, and $19.00 for the pillow cover

But this was the real haul of the day....you will have to hop over here to Sally's blog to read how we got it for $99.00 .....  The story is funny... the furniture is beautiful!

Thanks Sally....  I had a great time!

The Kentucky Derby

I am joining the Thrifty Treasures party over at Southern Hospitality and show off the play horses I picked up for $10.00 an an estate sale this weekend .... Amzie has mentioned a few times that she would like a horse...  every time I hear her say it, I encourage her to tell her daddy.... he gives me "tha-look" when I do that...so when I saw this heard of horses, I thought I should get all of them.... just in case Evan and Camryn need to talk to their daddy about a horse...they could practice on a horse smaller than them at first ...I think this is a great idea....

this one came with a few hair ornaments

get a good look and place your bet  ...
the little one is hurt and needs to see a vet

this one looks real to me....
I've been home alone too long.... I played with these horses for a few minutes

It was a fun day and I am happy about my $10.00 worth of play horses
Happy Thrifting!
